VLC 3.2.0b1: Any way to make playlists appear in a vertical list instead of tiles?

Postby PetMudstone » 26 Oct 2019 09:05

Title is self-explanatory. I tried out the 3.2 beta and I generally like the look of anything audio-related. What I do not like however, is how playlists are organized. I feel that the tiles don't show as much information as I would like, not to mention scrolling through them is awfully slow with constant lag (I'm pretty sure this is due to the album covers).
It may just be I have too many playlists, but the old style worked fine enough for me. It got frustrating to have to create new iterations of a playlist when you wanted to update one instead of just overwriting it, but it was fine otherwise.
I can't find any options to revert the look of the playlists section to the old style, if such an option does not currently exist I would like for it to be added.

When you are on one of the audio lists, tap on the three dots icon at the top right and then tap on Display in list.

I couldn't find anything related to Display by tapping on the three dots anywhere, neither in Audio, in Playlists, or in playback. I did notice that enabling "Show audio cards" in the interface settings did result in Artists and Albums being shown in a grid of cards (proper name for the "tiles" I assume) similar to the playlists section. Individual Tracks were left unaffected.

Above is an image showing a grid of playlists. As said before, I tapped on the three dots in the upper right and could not find anything related to Display.
I also believe I have found a bug.

Above is an image showing an artist's albums with cards disabled. For some reason the albums are not separated by date headers and instead are all grouped under the name of the last album in the list. They are still sorted in chronological order however.

Above is an image showing the same artist's albums with cards enabled. All fine here.
Actually, the non-card list just seems to be bugged in general. Was I supposed to access it?

Different artist, I'm supposedly sorting the non-card list by Length but it's still in (descending) chronological order. Same thing happens if I sort by Name. All sorting options work correctly in the card view, and this only affects albums in the Artist view. Viewing albums by their self or viewing tracks anywhere works perfectly fine in the non-card lists.

Since you are using v3.2.0 beta 1, you should update to beta 7 which has several improvements and the option you are looking for in the three dots menu.
Then report back if any troubles.

I'm using beta 7, and I'm seeing the same thing in the Playlists section. The "Display in list" option shows up within the three dots menu in both the Video and Audio sections, but the only option in the Playlists section is "Refresh".
