Could you please tell us what stops working? Does the app crash? Does the timer never end?

Say I put the sleep timer on for 30 mins for a 2 hour movie it will just play the entire 2 hour movie instead of going to sleep after 30 minutes when playing the movie as audio.

My phone upgraded to 3.1.4 and it seems my music is back :)
I'll wait for some days before closing the ticket.

By the way, any chances to have IceCast on Android ?

So, unfortunately, it was only a mirage.
It worked just after the update (so on the 6th), but everything is gone after nightly VLC repo refresh removed anything and my SD got unchecked.
So for me, this refreshing procedure is the culpit.

What VLC version do you have? It should be fixed in 3.1.4 (event in 3.1.2 if I remember correctly).

It's something that we are aware of. It's planned to be fixed in 3.1.5.

I updated (mistake) my VLC for Amazon Fire to the latest (3.1.3) and while I like some of the new features, like # of directories or files, it's going to drive me crazy in one main area. Every time I view a file in a folder, after viewing that file, it returns me the beginning of the list!

For example, in my TV series folders, I have episodes labedl "Ep01, Ep02...Ep22". When I go to view an episode, say episode 21, instead of how the old version would return me to episode 21 after finishing, the v3.1.3 looks like it's re-scanning and returns me to episode 01. Does the same thing for shows that aren't numbered - returns me to the highest file alphabetically in that folder! For other videos where I may have dozens of episodes or files, this gets to be quite annoying. Any idea how to turn this off? I tried tweaking the settings, but no impact.

Thanks!

Not sure the issue I'm experiencing this is related to the new VLC version, but it started happening sometime around April - there was also an Android March security patch delivered to my phone around the same time as the VLC upgrade, which could also break things.

But let's get to the point. Ever since my phone (Nokia 6.1) was upgraded to Android 9 (this is Android One, so no OEM extensions whatsoever), I could enjoy controlling music playback in VLC from my car audio system, via Bluetooth. That is, after the audio system was connected to my phone via Bluetooth, I could play music, browse music, switch songs, from the car's audio system. Now I cannot. When I select Bluetooth as audio source in the car, the VLC just starts playing the last song I was playing in it. Music controls don't work any more. Neither does music browsing. Perhaps worth mentioning is that I do not have Android Auto nor any other similar software installed on my phone.

Again, this could be because of that March Android security patch - a colleague of mine, who also happens to use a Nokia phone, said he had some other Bluetooth issues after installing this patch (he started having problems wirth synchronizing his smartwatch). But I thought it's a good idea to ask here also, just in case.

Not sure why after I did a factory reset on my Pixel listed above. The app started working properly. Before that I had tried clearing the cache uninstalling the app and anything else I could think of so not sure what was going on.

Iv'e investigated my issue further (controlling VLC through Bluetooth connection) and here's what I've managed to determine:
- audio controls through Bluetooth do work, it turns out; I just forgot how to use them:)
- so only browsing VLC's media library doesn't work (the car's media player just displays "loading..." for a brief moment, and then shows an empty list)
- I've came up with an idea to try another music player and see if I can control it from my car - I opened Google Play Music app, let it take over the Bluetooth media connection, and checked how it works; all functionality was available - music playback, music controls, music browsing.

So, given the above, it most certainly is an issue with the new VLC version. The Android system upgrade might also be related (as far as I know, there were some changes in the Bluetooth stack), but still, if another music player provides all functionality through Bluetooth, there's no reason VLC couldn't.

VLC version 3.1.4. Android 9 with April security patch. Nokia 6.1.

Please fix:)

They probably only test with one player or another, it does not mean it is correctly implemented.

Using VLC 3.1.7 arm64 on Oreo.

A .MID midi file appears in the Videos list

In a folder which contains 92 audio files, there are 8 AC/DC files in various formats (FLAC, OGG, MP4, WMA).
But VLC 3.1.7 is seeing only 2 of them in the Artists list.
All of the AC/DC files are tagged, but some are using AC/DC as the artist name, and some other ones AC-DC, if it could matter.
Other players are seeing all of the files.

EDIT:
In fact, many tracks are missing in the Artists list.
Only one out of four Aerosmith tracks is showing, none of the Bob Marley tracks is being shown, etc etc...

HI. I'm using VLC on my Fire TV but the new version 3.1.1 has lost the ability to sync audio on my streaming services, which was a very useful facility. Is this a deliberate move or have I missed something when installing the update please?

So I reverted back to v3.1.5 and all of the artists are back in the Artists list.
Some are missing the album cover though.

And the .MID file still appears in the Videos list.

I posted this in another forum but seems apropos here:

I am building vlc-android off of the 3.1.0 branch. Using the "-a arm -l" command line options. It gives the following output:

src/smb_utils.c:65: error: undefined reference to 'nl_langinfo'
src/smb_utils.c:65: error: undefined reference to 'nl_langinfo'
clang++: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation)

I read up and it seems the ndk removed nl_langinfo from the headers after 14. But VLC 3.1.0 will not build with less that 18.

How can I fix this?

Is there any way to remove the VLC crash reporter icon from the app drawer?

Platform: Acer Chromebook 15, running ChromeOS version 75.0.xxx (64-bit).
Quirk: I'm trying to access my built-in media server on my Netgear Nighthawk R7000P (i.e., 2 powered external drives plugged into the Netgear's 2 USB ports [USB ReadyShare activated, no passwords... able to access the external drive using Foobar 2000 for Android]).
The Good: VLC detects my smb-R7000P ....and.... upnp-music folder ....and... Netgear-R7000P shared folders on the local network.
The Bad: I click on the folder, and the orange plus symbol vanishes... and then nothing.
The ugly: VLC becomes unresponsive. Sometimes, VLC will open up the R7000P the subdirectory. Other times, it locks up and I have to close the application.
Next step: I'll dig around the threads for answers. If the VLC-Development-Team has suggestions, please post. Thanks, eh. BTW, if there's a way for me to upload screenshots on the forum, point me to the the instructions... I can illustrate what's going wrong.

##### update 16:28, EST, Aug. 15, 2019 #########
As I figure out my issue, I'll append this post. Okay/not-okay? Let me know, eh.
SOLVED: I was clicking on the shared folder's icon, that resulted in no activity. If I double clicked (using a USB-attached mouse) on the white space between the folder icon and the VLC's window's edge, it worked. So, it's a FORMATTING issue. Weird. :-)

Alright, here's another issue. The shared folders blip in-and-out of existance. It's as though VLC cannot keep a stable link to my smb-R7000P, upnp-music folder and Netgear-R7000P DNLA folders. Yikes :-(

I think I was able to copy the LOG file for the program and save it as a ZIP file. Since this forum won't allow me to upload a file, I'll include a link to a public cloud site:

Recent version of VLC 3.1.7 on Samsung GS9 Android version 9 has introduced some strange bugs. Whenever I play or pause any audio track it triggers a message alert on my handset and whenever I set the sleep timer I get up the next day and the VLC has to be Force closed because it is unresponsive. This happens 100% of the time when sleep timer is used. Is there a fix for this?

Hi there, I posted a while ago about sleep timer for audio not working. It does work now, but any time audio is stopped by the sleep timer, VLC will not play audio again until it is force closed and reopened. I'll still be using VLC since it's the best, and looking forward to a fix hopefully soon. Thanks for all the work you do!

Edit: forgot to mention this is on a Samsung Galaxy S9+.
