Why does it need access to microphone on Android?

Today VLC update popped up on my Huawei/Android 5 tablet and it asked for microphone permission. I don't think it ever asked for this before and i wonder why it needs it.

Android TV needs this permission to allow users to search content.
As the app is the same for TV and smartphone/tablet, the permission is asked anywhere. However, it will only be used for a search in TV mode.
