Strange behaviour of the Recent items list on KitKat

I have another problem with the History, and that's on Oreo this time, using v3.1.2-2.

The first item of the list is missing the cover of the file, even though it's an OGG as well as the second item which has the cover:
https://i.postimg.cc/2CCbf3fX/Screensho ... 54-VLC.jpg

While it's there when playing back the file:
https://i.postimg.cc/kJGWPGWd/Screensho ... 09-VLC.jpg

And another issue, which might be linked to the first one.
Looking closer at this screenshot, I've notices two problems at the top:

1. The second line (Performer) is too dark and very hard to read (less important but annoying).
An issue I've already reported here:
https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc- ... issues/439

2. The first line does not display the tags of the file, but the file name (important!).
This is clearly a regression because we can see in the screenshot of issue #439 that the tags were properly displayed with an older version.
And other players are doing it right:

+1 Sleep timer stopped working (Samsung Tab S3)

Fixed
Sweet and thank you for the notification.

Two things.

1) Somewhat oddly the VLC app page on Google Play notes March 29 as the latest update (although I seem to have the April 9 version.)
2) What is the update schedule? When can one reasonably expect this fix to roll out via Play Store?
VLC auto-updated via Google Play to 3.1.2 on 13 April, but the sleep timer issue has not been fixed.

Oh dear. The equaliser button is missing from the three dots menu. It now shows "Last playlist, Sort by... and Refresh". Where can I get the previous version?

Edit: Found them! They're at https://get.videolan.org/vlc-android/

I have 3.1.2 (on a Shield) and the three dot menu during playback has Equalizer for me. It has:

Sleep Timer
Playback Speed
Jump to Time
Equalizer
Pop-Up Player
Repeat Mode
Go to Chapter...
A-B Repeat
Save Playlist
Digital Audio Output

But I see no "Last Playlist" "Sort By" or "Refresh" for some reason.

Another small issue

After playing one video almost to the end and then you suddenly open another video (of similar length) at times, the playback of new video starts from the position old video was in. This can result in unexpected spoilers.
I have not been able to reproduce the issue. Could you tell me exactly what you do? Do you open the videos from the app or another one?

That's my fault. I fixed it for video but not for audio. Reopening the issue.

it is random. May be once in 20 plays.

I use MixPlorer as file manager and launch media files through VLC. (VLC is not set as default).

This happens mostly when VLC instance had a previous file being played and I happen to trigger it to play another file of almost similar legth (in playtime not file size because these are episodes of some show). At this point instead of playing new media from time zero, it plays from the point previous media was in. So if I was at 58th minute of a 60 minute episode, the next one will play from there.

This behavior has been there before 3.1.x series, possibly in 3.0.x. As it is not reliably reproducible, I am not sure.

If possible also please look into the other issue blank screen on resumption for me as well as another user.

I am having the same issues.

VLC 3.1.2
Huawei Mate 9
Android 9
OK. So this is not something isolated to my device or the Xperia line alone.

Can you please check in VLC > Menu > History and see if the titles of media played is displayed correctly?
Same for me. Checked my history, and the video files that this occurred on some are listed as audio files with 5 digits instead of videos with titles. It does not appear to correspond to the files that failed video playback, but could be useful information. All videos are failing resuming playback when switching out of VLC.

VLC 3.1.2
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Hi,
I have an issue with several 3.1.2 builds. Currently I'm on the one of April 10 (https://get.videolan.org/vlc-android/3. ... 64-v8a.apk)

The problem is that sometimes not all artists are displayed.
Only artists from one specific directory are shown.
However, when I go to playlists, it does seem to display all playlists that I have.

To clarify:
On my SD card, I have a directory Music.
In there, I have directories 0 to 9 and A to Z that then contain each time a directory per artist and below that a directory per album.
For example: /Music/A/ABBA/Gold
There is one a bit special directory, that is for albums with various artists, this is /Music/Various/ and then each album.

Almost all album directories contain a .m3u file as playlist in WinAmp format.
In my settings I have set the directories to be searched to be only /Music/, nothing else on my internal memory or SD card.

So if I go to Audio, it often only displays Artists, Albums, Tracks and Genres present in the Various folder, not the other folders.
However, in playlists, it does display all playlists from all folders.
Is this a known bug?

Did you check that all the folders were checked in the preferences?

So the music folder has a white checkmark on an bright orange checkbox.
All subfolders (0-9, A-Z, Various) have a white checkmark on a less bright orange checkbox.
So yes, it seems all folders where checked in Settings - Media library folders.

Then, we need a copy of your database and the names of the songs you are not seeing.

No longer stays running in background

Postby j311r79 » 24 Apr 2019 02:03

Prior to one recent release, I could set the playlist to play as audio, set the sleep timer, lock my phone, and set it on the wireless charging pad. However, over the past couple weeks, when I do this, the playlist stops playing after about 10 minutes. It seems the app is stopped from running in the background after some amount of timeout.

If you set the sleep timer, isn't that normal?

Ah, that's an issue. But it is probably the audio timer issue that we fixed for 3.1.3

Oh, I'm sorry. I missed that 3.1.3 wasn't in the store yet. Assumed that was the version I was on. Thanks.

We use VLC in conjunction with Boxer for Workspace ONE. After the update, VLC no longer plays wav files (voicemail) on Android 9.0.

VLC 3.1.3 crashes when playing live video streams in landscape view.

How to reproduce:
I start VLC in portrait mode, then I open a live video stream using an M3U playlist from the History list.
Still in portrait view, the video starts to play, then I hit the Back key and I'm back to the History list, OK.
Now I play again the same live video stream, but if I turn the phone in landscape mode while the video is playing then VLC crashes as soon as I hit the Back key.
Occurs with any live video stream I've tried.
It does not occur when playing videos from the SD card.

Tested on Oreo ARM64.

Hi all,

I played a bit with 3.1.2 on my Huawei P10 light under android 8.0.0.
  • at the beginning VLC won't add all the music I had on my SD card (as listed in previous post), despite I requested to add its folders in my "médiatech" (no media found message) : my solution was to clean cache AND own data. At startup VLC asked if I want to add SD media, yes obviously and it worked. I'll check next time I'll had some music if they are discovered automatically or not.
  • I am disappointed not to see IceCast in Android version
  • but my biggest disappointment is about Android Auto integration : Any way to disable this nasty "concentrate on road message" ???? As in addition the interface is really rude, it's a total nightmare to select a music by it's artist or by title name when you have hundred of musics    The selection can be made by a passenger, isn't it ?
Bye

I'll open a ticket.

I did it yesterday and when I restarted VLC, it did scan the SD : so I got everything.
But this morning, everything is lost again : only the single MP3 I have on my phone internal storage is visible.

More, I did try as well to add this SD using the préférence. But it seems it is never took in account (when I'm back in Préférence, the SD is unchecked).
