VLC does not find files

Hello,

I use VLC 3.0.13 for Amazon Fire TV Stick (AFTV). When I browse the internal (!) directories, playlists are not detected. This happens with m3u-files and sxpf-files as well. I enable showing hidden files. No files are detected. If I use a file commander then there are all files. I can open them with VLC and they are working perfectly.
Does anyone know what is the secret? What I am doing wrong? I thought that coding file selecting boxes is not rocket science in the 21st century.

I have a log-file but I do not know how to add here. It is more than 100 kb. So I do not want to post the plain text.

I am also facing a similar issue after upgrading my Android TV to version 8.0. VLC Player lists the folders in USB connected HDD. But while browsing the folders, it says "Directory is Empty". It was working fine in Android TV version 7.0. The files are there and I am able to play them through Android TV media player. Any thoughts?

I have already a log-file concerning my issue mentioned above. But I need three posting to present these roughly 130 kilobytes. I think there is a limit of 60kb per posting.
This seems not very helpful to solve this problem.

I am having the same issue. Vlc says folder empty when there are mkv files in it. This is happening on a skyworth android tv. Other media players see the files but won't play them. Some say audio format not supported others just say can't play file. So I got Vlc but it won't even see any files. Please help

Responding to the opening thread i can confirm that issue with the same setting (VLC 3.0.13 on Amazon Fire TV Stick).
I also use VLC 3.0.13 on different android devices and figured out... it's a "problem" with the interface for Android TV. If enabled the interface for Android TV on other devices (e.g. tablet) vlc won't list playlists. There is also no register playlists in section audio.
Disable the interface to see the playlists again.

Is it possible to disable the interface for Android TV on Fire TV Stick?

I am still not able to get VLC to see media files on my Skyworth Android 8.0 tv. I added my media folder to VLC but it just says the folder is empty. I however, have been able to play them on VLC by using a file browser app. I browse to the folder my files are in and double click the files and say open with VLC and it works for AVI and MKV but VLC won't play MP4s for some reason.

This is something I have seen as well. I am using a Motorola XYBoard (MZ609) with Android 4.1.2 as a media device. It's old enough that most apps just bog it down now, but it can still stream music using VLC. For some reason, it thinks most .M3U or .PLS files are invalid and refuses to show them. Occasionally, it WILL recognize and list a few. I have not been able to figure out the difference even by examining the files with a hex editor. So I am doing what others are doing, using the browse directories function to select the files. I hope some sort of patch will be issued soon?
