Hello Dekans!

Thanks again for your efforts.

I downloaded the new apk but got a 'corrupt file' message on installation. Do I need to delete the first build before installing the revised one?

WTF is wrong with my builds :(

I've uploaded another one and verified it.

But it's built from another PC, so signature is different, you will have to uninstall the previous one first.

It's pushed on master, so you can install the last nightly build too.

Hi there!

I have good news and bad news. I downloaded and installed the new build (from your link, 3 posts above this one), no problems. The songs parsed smoothly and loaded properly in all categories, no problems. The songs will play when clicked on individually, but when I click 'shuffle', it crashes. I did this more than 10 times, and gave all necessary permissions, but every time I click 'shuffle', it crashes. In other words, everything in the new build worked fine, EXCEPT shuffle. There is still a little bug in there somewhere. Fyi: Shuffle worked fine on the first build.

Sorry to cause you more headaches.

Good luck ... and in the words of Bon Jovi, 'keep the faith'.

I'm having similar issues with a large collection of albums:
- songs is always empty
- if I follow the path: Artists - Albums, for some artists no albums are displayed, or it takes a while for them to be displayed. When I swype down, VLC tries to refresh the list and they become visible after around 10 seconds.

Another issue I have, but this is perhaps not the right place, is that I would prefer some better scrolling in the artist list or album list.
A possibility to scroll by first letter of the artist or album name would be nice.

OK dudes, I've been AFK for some time. Installed the latest build tonight and can confirm what @kentfkruhoeffer said: The app is crashing as soon as I hit the shuffle button.
Will be reverting back to the first provisional build. That one crashes quite often but can shufffle play for sure ....
;)
This ain't sarcasm, please believe me. I am an engineer (not software but mechanical) and I know what it means to develop something. So be assured that I am on your side. :)

I'm not so surprised, the 'shuffle all' feature implies to load all songs.
I have to find a way to incrementally load all songs in playlist :/

How come it works with the first build? The one from Sept 10th? Tested shuffle play again with it and it works like a charm :)

Because it shuffles from the list loaded for UI.
So you only have a partial list of your collection.

It actually doesn't work, VLC didn't load the whole collection.

I found an easy and safe way to do it. It should be OK starting tomorrow's nightlies.

Hi Dekans, been trying VLC-Android-3.0.13-20181001-0057-ARMv8.apk which installed fine. Behaves more or less like the one before. The difference is when hitting the shuffle button: There's a notification that says "Loading please wait" with a rotating donut before VLC crashes some seconds later. The older build crashed immediately.

I'd like the logs if you can get it with adb.

I have two things for you. First, my phone is a Xiaomi device. When an app crashes, it asks to send a message to their developers, but you can copy it and save it. So here it is.

Code: Select all

Secondly, I collected a log with adb on my Sabayon machine. Unfortunately it contains too many characters to post it here.
You can download it using the following link:

Hope it helps ...

Thanks MM, for posting your crash logs. My Vivo X20Plus, for some reason, does not generate VLC crash logs.

When I click 'shuffle' within the songs playlist, VLC closes and returns to the home screen.

Waiting patiently for the 'new and improved' build. :D

hmmm, either my trick to load all tracks is not used, either we have a reference leak.

Thanks for the logs, really helpful. (If your build is from sept 27th or later)

OK, I found a leak, due to another patch.

I reproduced the crash and it seems to be fixed.

Nightly builds should be back tomorrow morning. For now, I'll try to speed up the loading time!

Eureeka!

Yes, it works :!:

Songs loaded faster than before, and it shuffles without crashing.

So, a BIG thank you to Dekans, for not giving up. CONGRATULATIONS! 🎉 You fixed it.

Thanks also to Moldmaker for making the initial post, for providing crash logs, and for hanging in there.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a blunt to smoke and songs to shuffle. Rock on dudes.
