Audio stream stops playing when screen is turned off

Postby GTHvidsten » 31 Jul 2018 11:36

On my Samsung Galaxy S7 audio streams have suddenly started to stop when the screen is turned off. Local music is played just fine.
Obviously this has something to do with power/data saving, but I have checked all my connection settings to make sure I don't have any such settings enabled, yet VLC continues to stop playing.

Does anybody know of which OS options might cause this, or if there are any VLC options to override this behavior?

Do you have a battery optimization software?

Works on all Samsung phones I've tried, from KitKat to Nougat.
Check WiFi and Data power saving settings. Make also sure background data usage is allowed for VLC (Apps -> VLC -> Mobile Data).

I had already tried that suggestion, and other suggestions after an evening of googling, yet none of the tips I found helped.

What did help, however, was a restart of my phone!

I'm guessing there's a bug somewhere in Samsung's battery saving software that doesn't reset absolutely everything after having turned "power save" on and off.
Of course, I don't know which setting would have fixed this without the reboot, and now that everything is working again I don't have the patience to try reversing settings.

In any case, it might be worth looking deeper into this issue to see if there's anything that can be done in VLC to override whatever was not reset.
