VLC Android subtitles cause video to stutter/ drop frames

Postby jaz000 » 02 Jun 2017 01:42

Playing a video with subtitles, when the new subtitle displays, the video skips a frame or two.
Is there a way to stop this happening?

Thanks

I am having the same issue, video freezes for a few frames every time a new subtitle is displayed, otherwise runs smoothly.
So far I only tested subtitles with MKV files.
Until there is a fix for this I preffer not using subtitles because this is quite annoying.. :-|

Yes, this is still a big VLC issue.

I have the same stuttering problem, I can share my particular subtitle, if it will help you diagnose the problem.
I have observed that the longer the text, the more frames are skipped, the longer the video stops. The shorter the text, the less the effect is pronounced.

I have determined that the old beta version of VLC did not have the problem, playing the same subtitle.
I have also tested the stock Android video player, smooth as a lightsaber through stone.
MX Player Pro > smooth as New Zealand butter.

But I prefer the way VLC treats subtitles, slightly over everyone else. (Still not as perfect as PC's version of MPC-HC.)

I'd like to see more srt flexibility, being able to place text in X Y positions, colours, bold, italics, 2 texts at once (overlapping with no problems).
My subtitle has these aspects to it, and if Videolan implemented this, they would be the only ones who provide this flexibility on Android.

Let me know if you could use the srt

:)

You can change colour and bold, I believe.

Thanks for your support.
I also have seen this problem when playing DVD ISO file.
I found vlc-android 1.0.1 version has no video frames dropping with subtitle but, 1.1.0 version has video frame dropping problem.
And I also found no problem with my Asus Zenpad 10.1 in which Intel atom cpu is.
Finally, this bug occur between 1.0.1 and 1.1.0 apk with arm based cpu devices.
