VLC can't **see** .wmv files on Android

VLC can't **see** .wmv files on Android
It plays them just fine if it's made to do so but it won't admit they are there to play in the first place. Any fix or do I just have to recode them in a more android-friendly format?

When asking VLC to open a file it won't admit .wmv files exist--they are not on the list of files to pick. However, if the phone is told to play the .wmv file with VLC it plays fine.Sorry, I don't understand.

2.5.5. The version that was available when I posted the message.What version of VLC is used?
It's annoying that it refuses to see a file that it's capable of playing.
