Anyway, do you have any idea as to why VLC Android beta/nightly is not able to remember the play position? I have tried deleting old data and beginning fresh, but still no help.
It may just be a bug, not surprising in nightly (beta) builds.
Did you try the production build?

Currently running VLC 2.1.19.

On my LG phone, works with no problems, finds everything in directories both internal and on SD card. When I connect to Android Auto, I can see VLC (thank you very much) but VLC tells me no media found.

Could be. That is why I was reporting it in this testing for bugs thread. In Google Play I may have to get out of beta testing to get the stable build. I will try that later. (Actually I came to testing because the stable lacked some feature I liked, forgot what it is now)

Hi!

This entry is IMHO a bug on Android client
"Video not centered when using HDMI output"
viewtopic.php?t=157623

There is a test in OnePlus8 and Galaxy Note 9

Saludos!

This thread is dated July 2015.
After 8 years still VLC doesn't work properly in my Sony Bravia. Don't get me wrong. I'm using VLC on Windows for decades and never had a single complain until I tried to use it in the Sony Bravia TV that runs Android. Needless to say that in my modest opinion Android is crap if you compare to iOS, Windows or even Linux. Yes, I installed VLC the first day I switched on the Bravia and to my dismay VLC didn't work as expected. I tried loading videos in a USB, no way. Then I installed a USB in my router. No way. Tried several other video players. Same problem. Then I did find Nova player and worked just fine. So, the question is why VLC doesn't work in the Sony Bravia?
