Network buffering setting does not seem to work

I am trying to play some mp3 from my SMB share over a crappy/vpned connection from my phone. Play stutters every ~5 seconds so I decided to increase the buffer cache time in advanced settings.

I set it to 10 000ms but after I play a song it craps out at 6 seconds. So unless I misunderstood the setting it is clearly not working. No matter what number I put in there nothing really seems to change. Any ideas?

This settings is an old and historic setting and I think it doesn't work anymore...

I put that on our TODO list.

Anyway, If you say that your connection is " over a crappy/vpned connection", well don't look too far
