Android version doesn't let you accept an unknown certificate

Postby mikekehrli » 04 Mar 2016 20:37

Hi,

I am trying to play content from a known https source (my own webserver on a raspberry pi). I'm using a dns service that keeps my domain updated to my un-fixed IP address. But I'm using a self signed security certificate. I can play my videos on the windows version of VLC. But the Android version won't work and won't let me accept the certificate. It gives me a message that "VLC encountered an error...".

When I turn on logging and look at the log file, it clearly shows that it didn't recognize the certificate, and so it can't make the connection. I didn't see a solution in settings.

Is there a way to accept a security certificate, preferably permanently?

Thanks.

One solution: I downloaded and am using Mplayer from the app store. It works great.
