VLC for Android and ARC Welder

Postby hetzbh » 16 Jun 2015 20:00

Hi,

This post is regarding VLC for Android, when trying to launching it using ARC Welder on Chrome (or ChromeOS).
There was a thread in Reddit how to make VLC for Android work in Chrome with ARC Welder. You can see it here:

http://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos/commen ... chrome_os/

I tried it, and unfortunately, me and others had issues with file associations error (see it here: http://s24.postimg.org/rlmzho1np/Screen ... play_1.png ). I tried also the latest (1.4.1 and 1.5.0 nightly - those don't work at all). The ChromeBook which I'm using is Intel Based (ARC can use ARM APK's without any problem).

One of the biggest problem with Chrome OS is that it refuses to play any MKV file which has 5.1/AC3 codec, all you get is video without audio, and thats including other players which appear on the Chrome Store, so the hope of many of us is to use VLC for Android (since there isn't one for Chrome OS) with it.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

The same problem, same mistake ...

it seems that works for some but I can not find how to change the number of extension support.

I read that vlc soon be available on chrome os, is it expected a version of VLC for chrome os ?

I googled and found a feasible way to make VLC for Android work on Chrome, you may give this a shot.
Steps to Install VLC

Install Arc Welder from the chrome store https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... ngdoccbadn
Download the vlc apk (arm version) https://get.videolan.org/vlc-android/0.9.10/armv7/
Open ARC Welder and Add the vlc apk
Add the following to the Additional metadata text box {"enableExternalDirectory": true}
Launch app.

Notes on usage

When you first open it you need to select a media folder, if there is too much content in this folder it doesn't seem to finish loading. It crashes a few times before you can play content but endure, it only took me 4 times to get a movie playing the first time :).

The extension issue was fixed in the trunk. You need to compile with -c

Hi there, I am fairly new to this, but I am still seeing this issue in the 1.6.6-ARMv7 APK from get.videolan.org/vlc-android/1.6.6/, which was built in October. It seems like this change should have made it to that APK build?

You would rather build your own apk. There is a Chrome target

Code: Select all

./compils.sh -c

Return to “VLC for Android and Chrome OS”
