How to Roll Back to Pre-Beta ... For Dummies

Postby agoodfella » 04 Apr 2014 15:39

VLC player was working flawlessly on my Galaxy Note 3 until it automatically updated to the current Beta version.

I don't know how to roll back the previous version. My OS is 4.4.2 and is stock.

I went to the VLC site and downloaded the APK for the previous version, downloaded an APK installer, but it keeps giving me a "parsing" error, which frankly, puts me at the very limits of my (very limited) Android knowledge.

Basically, I'm stuck.

I'd love to be able to re-install the previous version of VLC without having to go over the river and through the woods. I don't understand why they don't have the option to get the install directly from Google Play for the non-Beta version? Enough ranting.

Can anyone ELI5, how to do this?

Thank you.

choose the desired version according to build date from here http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/android-armv7/ I am also using very old version because developer cut off graphic support in my kitkat in newer build.

There was never a published pre-Beta version... unless you count the very early days pre 0.0.1 which you should not be using anyway.

I finally figured this out.

For those who might have a similar issues, go to this download page for VLC's previous Android builds:

1) http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-android.html
2) Intall the ARM APK for 0.4.1
3) Make sure you choose Chrome to install
4) Select OK when it asks you if you confirm installation
5) BOOM. Done.

Thanks to everyone else for their help.
