Kitkat 4.4.2 update and SD Card

Postby tiqqi22 » 16 Mar 2014 14:31

Hi,
I seem to be having problems since updating to Kitkat 4.4.2. VLC does not appear to have permission or recognize any of the files on the ext sd card so when i go to the extsdcard directory it comes up blank but the data is on there as my glaley is picking it up. I hope you can look into this. I read elsewhere that it most likely to do with the 4.4.2 update to incorporate new security features. I hope someone can find a solution for this
I am using a note 3 in the UK on 02 network. I heavily rely up on this for my train journeys to watch videos.

Thanks

Tiqs

Have the same Problem.
Had installed Android 4.4.2 yesterday evening, and since then i didnt see my video files on the external sd-card. I checked with File explorer, (ES File Explorer) and find my videos also i can start them form the file explorer (also in VLC).
Everything i move to external card vanished and i see in VLC only plain SD. Before the update i see all vids on the mobile phone in vlc.
PLs fix this, vlc is a great player.

Phone is Samsung S4
Android 4.4.2

This seems to be a well-known bug in the Samsung firmware.

As far as I know this isn't a bug but concious decision from Google. After KitKat update apps will no longer be able to write and read from anywhere on the SD card no matter what permission they have. They can only access to their own folder inside the SD. "org.videolan.vlc" folder would be my guess but I'm not too sure, Google never explained it officially.

I've was experiencing the same problem. Thanks for the update!
I've installed it. The app will now automatically pick up my SD card, but still can't find any of the files held on it :(
