I still have this problem - does anyone have any ideas? I have tried deleting one of my movies off the external SD card via my PC today then copying it back on, to see if that made any difference - it didn't. Would really appreciate any help with this

No, I don't think so. With my problem, the files can be read by VLC - if I click on Directories from the left hand menu, the extSDCard appears and I can access the videos there. The problem is that if I click on Video from the left hand menu, it says no media files found, even if I have gone into preferences and clicked on the right folder.

If you look back earlier in this thread you will see I have posted a video demo of the problem.

The frustrating thing is that VLC worked fine for several months after I first installed it but it just seemed to develop this fault overnight.

Hi,

Could you uninstall any VLCs on your device, install the most recent nightly build, open it, add what folders needed for the external SD card, and refresh.

Then go to Preferences → Advanced debugging and dump the logcat log (at the bottom).

I did the same as last time: preferences, Advanced debugging, then Debug logs. Pressed on start, went and replicated the problem and then stopped the log. Pasted what was shown. There was no logcat / log messages option. I am using the nightly build.
I don't know it is different to the one I posted earlier in this thread.

Ok I have uninstalled vlc, then installed the latest one from the link you gave me. I have then gone into preferences/directories and selected the folder from my external sd card and refreshed (still not working). Then dumped logcat.
