Remember last played audio

When playing a video file when I exit VLC if I look through my video files, at least the last video I was playing will resume from where I last left it. Also underneath the thumbnail of that video, there is an orange bar showing approximately where in video I was, along with the time I was at in the video (eg 5:20 / 9:40). Would it be possible to enable this feature for audio files as well?

(PS on a somewhat related note, is there a setting somewhere where I can set VLC to never get flushed from memory or something? It seems that if I have my phone on standby for hours, when I come back to it VLC refreshes and so it has to rescan all my files and I lose my place in whatever I was listening to.)

This doesn't work as well for audio, since it plays in the background.

So is there any way to do this? For example when the audio is paused, the place you are in the file is noted down in a file and when you open VLC again it will read that position and automatically put you in the same place.

Or is it possible in VLC to set it so that it will never get flushed from ram?

Btw I asked previously if it was possible to play videos in the background, and apparently it is a feature being worked on. So are you saying that if you play a video in the background that it wont remember what place you were in once VLC is terminated?

Audio is not terminated (it continues in the background) when the VLC "interface" is exited out of.

What normally would happen is that I would pause an audio podcast and hope to come back to it in the morning. But when I unpause it, it refreshes everything from the beginning.

Well, in-file bookmarks could be implemented for that use case, I think.
