Root Option for External SD

Postby jdbarker » 16 Dec 2012 00:44

What happened to the root option that was in the previous builds a few weeks ago? Now I am restricted to my phone's paltry on-board memory. Using an AT&T Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-I317) with a 64GB SD card formatted in exFAT, in case the progam is supposed to detect the card but isnt for some odd reason. The older builds had no problem finding my external memory...

It should automatically detect the external memory card. What does the directory view say?

Am having this same problem on my s3 international since the 0.0.8 update. Was thinking that vlc was not looking for the external card at the right mount point as the card is detected by the rest of the phone.

VLC should automatically detect the external SD. If it doesn't, try clearing the VLC data in Android and trying again.

Directory view only shows SDcard0, which is the on-board memory. I cleared application data, uninstalled 0.0.8, then installed 0.0.9 but still no external SD card access. 0.0.8 sees the card fine.

Thanks for the tips.

Hi,

Can you open Terminal and paste us the contents of /proc/mounts?

Thanks.

On my GN2, the internal storage is on /sdcard (or /storage/sdcard0) and microSD is on /storage/extSdCard

I too am having this problem, albeit with an external usb drive rather than SD card. I have an asus transformer infinity tf700t running vlc for android beta v0.0.8 on android 4.1.1.

Both the internal storage (/storage/sdcard0) and the microSD (/Removable/MicroSD) show up in directories, but my external usb drive (/removable/USBdisk1) does not.

If I used ESFileExplorer to navigate to a movie or audio file on the USB drive, it will open in vlc and play just fine, but i would like to import these files int vlc and select them from in-program if possible. Is there a config file for VLC that I could edit to point VLC to the right directory? I am not root, so i'm not sure if this is possible.

Hmm, please try the latest nightly build and see if it helps: http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/arm ... -debug.apk

have tried the latest nightly, but still not able to see the external sd card within the application but it will play if opening with vlc from file manager, so it dosen't have a problem using paths given to it, again i feel its looking in the wrong place(or a typo in the path) for discovery of the external sd.

the entry for the external card in the /proc/mounts reads

Code: Select all

/dev/block/vold/179:48 /storage/extSdCard exfat rw,dirsync,nosuid,nodev,noexec,noatime,nodiratime,uid=1000,gid=1023,fmask=0002,dmask=0002,allow_utime=0020,codepage=cp437,iocharset=utf8,namecase=0,errors=remount-ro 0 0

Try the latest nightly and see if it improves anything.

Hi,

I encountered the same problem, with my galaxy s3 not able to see external card with version 0.08.
After installing the nightly, it fixes the problem of the external card but all videos are lagging and eventually crush.
