Motorola Atrix HD

Postby Mirage » 04 Dec 2012 05:11

Just thought I'd let the community know, for those interested, that the following build seems to work fine on my Motorola Atrix HD (MB886 AT&T version) running ICS version 4.0.4.

I don't run and haven't yet tested very many formats, as yet but the basics seem to work well without the bloat of the factory installed apps.

So far I've tested MP4, AVI, MP3, more to test tomorrow...

Hope this helps someone else out there.

OK, ran the whole suite of VLC test files from this link,

http://people.videolan.org/~jb/android_test/

and the only file that would not run properly is the "Recital_24bit.flac" file.

Again, hope this helps.

Which is expected, I think (for this file).

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if it was a bug or not. Also found that VLC won't play midi files, but I read in another post it that it's not designed to at this time. Neither of the two pre-installed media players do either on this phone, which is kinda funny considering I can use midi files as ringtones. Very strange.

Yep, that's the thread I read, which led me to the bug report to quoted. Thanks for the info though, It's not a big problem for me. I just like the fact that I can use VLC instead of the bloated, sell-you-something, ad crammed, pre-installed junk that passes for media players. VLC still rules!

Ok, been playing around with VLC a little more and found a couple of things I thought I might report. I don't want to actually call them bugs, but could be minor irritants.

First, if I'm playing an audio file and I press the "Back" key, (not the one on the VLC button bar), I can exit VLC and the audio file continues to play until it ends. I wonder if it wouldn't be better to have it allow you to go back to the VLC menu page, then ask you if you really want to exit VLC.

Next, I found that if I turn on "Enable hardware accelerated decoding" in Preferences, most of my videos fail to play properly. They stutter, become choppy, and display garbage. It's probably the phones problem, and the way VLC is trying to use the hardware which doesn't support this feature. But I thought I report it.

That's all I have for now. I'll keep playing, and let you know what I find. Thanks for such a great product!

About the audio file, where did you start playing the file from? If I start the file from VLC itself, it does in fact go back to the main VLC window.

Yes it does go back to the main VLC window, but if I click again it exits VLC and the song continues to play.... Oh wait, I just tried it again, and figured out what is going on. I can exit VLC while the song is playing, but VLC itself does not shut down till the end of the song. I just noticed the little cone icon in my system bar went away as soon as the song ended. So never mind. As we used to say when I was testing software/hardware for a living... That's not a bug, it's a feature!
