Samba/CIFS support ?

Postby Goner » 18 Oct 2012 22:19

Feature request ...
I download all the TV series I watch on my Archos G9 on my NAS. At the moment I use a file browser to connect to the NAS over wi-fi and then open the avi or mp4 and select VLC to play it ... but it would be nice to browse my SMB shares in VLC itself !

I have been using the Android beta with ES File Explorer using a CIFS (SMB-v2) LAN link to my house video server for some time. It works very well. The only problem I've encountered (the problem is an intermittent behaviorial one that may be in ES File Explorer) is seeking a position with the "positiong bar" at the bottom of the screen. My practice, now, is to only use the "seek" control which has been flawless for skipping over adverts.

My device is an Asus ME301T refurb. The meda files are transcoded by ffmpeg to MPEG-2 PS (DVD parameters) from OTA MPEG-2 TS to save space. MPEG-4 is too compressed for my taste.

Yeah, it is possible that it is a quirk in ES's SMB proxy.
