VLC for Galaxy S III

Postby substring » 05 Oct 2012 13:33

I am a long time user of VLC on my laptop and I absolutely love it. I am so happy that it is finally available for Android devices. However, I went to Google Play and downloaded the VLC Direct Pro. It is asking me to connect to a PC. So I am not sure if I have downloaded the right app. All I want is to play the video that is on my SD card. I have no need to connect to external data source. Please help.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link. First of all, I cannot find it in Google Play. Then when I went to the link through the Chrome browser, all the devices from the dropdown list are grayed out. Does it mean this beta version of VLC does not support Galaxy S III? Or have I done it wrong?

Please help as I am pulling hair on this thing.

Go into preferences and change the "Root" setting to /mnt/extSdCard

Don't forget to refresh after directory change. If you are really stuck, clear the VLC app's data then change root, and then refresh.

Need help again. The VLC player was working great on my GS3 for a while. But this week, I notice it can no longer play the MP4 video that were taken by my phone's camera. The replay of the video is very sluggish and blurry. The funny thing is that it only happen when I am playing the MP4 on the external SD card. For the MP4 video that I have moved to the internal SD card, the video replay is normal.

I have also proved that the MP4 video on my external SD card are not corrupted because I can play them with the default player and has no problem.

Does anyone know why? I have reinstalled the VLC player and got the same result. It is very frustrating. :(

Try a nightly build, and if you still have problems, obtain the logcat debugging log (http://wiki.videolan.org/Android_Report_bugs#Logcat_log ) and pastebin it.

Thanks for the quick response. I was using the same link I got previously to get the nightly build. Is it correct? The link is:
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/arm ... -debug.apk

Also, can you explain what is "pastebin"?

Thank you so much for your help.

I guess my post got bumped, so let me try again.

I don't know the difference between "with FPU" and "no FPU". But I installed both version of nightly build and got the same problem. It seems the biggest problem is on MP4 and MOV formats. Those type of video are not viewable at all. For WMV video, it is sluggish but viewable. It seems to work the best on AVI files.

And I still don't know what is "pastebin".

Thanks in advance.

@substring:

If you have a Galaxy S3, you should use the Cortex-A8 with NEON build → http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/arm ... -debug.apk
