Where to download? (Which?)

Postby PolarWind » 09 Aug 2012 02:35

I'm sorry for the probably incredibly stupid question.

But starting at this page: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-android.html

There is no direct download, but there is a button for Google Play (which is just a link search)

https://play.google.com/store/search?q=VLC+beta

I always look at the developer of apps before I download anything especially when trying to use the legit app as opposed to a knock off or counterfeit.

I see none that say VideoLAN or any resemblance. So which one do I download, which one is the correct one?

I appreciate the help and none flaming.

The nightly builds are also good to try, they are newer and probably more stable :)

Thank you for the replies.

I'm pretty sure my phone is non-neon (HTC EVO 4G), so I'm not sure the google play link you've provided will benefit me
however thank you for linking it for it may help someone else who is in the same boat as me, looking for a legit download.

As far as the nightlies, I'm not sure which of those is the proper download for me.

(HTC EVO 4G)
If I read correctly, the QSD8650 inside the EVO 4G is ARMv7 with VFP+NEON, so you should be able to use http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/android-v7-neon/

Haha wow... Hand me my dunce cap cause now I feel foolish.

Based on what I had been previously told the Evo4G didn't have
neon as well as google play telling me it wasn't compatible
with my phone. Didn't see it on the first line didn't think to look
on the second.

In my defense I just got off a 12 hour shift with 5 hours of sleep
the night before lol

I uninstalled the non-neon version and tried the neon version.
It appears to be working so far.

Thanks for the catch Jean!

Hello.
I've tried to download vlc for android but unfortunately Google Play doesn't allow me to install it on my device. It is a Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 WIFI/3G (model GT-P7500) with Android 3.2, kernel version 2.6.36.3.
Is there anyway I can get the apk installation file (stable version)?
Thanks

AFAIK the GT-7500 has a Tegra 2 T20 chipset, so try this build:
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/android-v7-tegra2/

There aren't stable builds yet, the latest nightly should generally work OK.

Hello,

I am trying to install this app on my new Sony NSZ-GS7 (Internet Player with Google TV). It is running Android 3.2. Do any of your builds support this model yet? Could i possibly get the installation file?

Thank you in advance.

This belongs in a new thread; and to answer your question you need the x86 build

Thank you EdwardW, would you by any chance have the link to the x86 build?

All I am seeing on http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/ is:
android-v6-fpu
android-v6-nofpu
android-v7-neon
android-v7-tegra2

But I don't see the x86 build, unless I'm looking in the wrong place

This still belongs in a new thread; try this build: http://norsky.no/public.php?service=fil ... 120808.apk

Thank you very much :-)

I've downloaded and installed it and so far it works great!
