Reading External Memory Card

Is there a way to get VLC for Android on my Samsung Galaxy S3 to read the external memory card?

Could you please share the result of your effort, I seem to be less clever.

Oops, I was wrong. Though Preferences one can select the root. For the SD Card that is /mnt/extSdCard/. For all others who might be in trouble.
