I'm running VLC on my freebox mini (small settopbox running Android TV) . I'm looking for an MKV player to read my MKV library made out of my DVD or BluRay discs, stored on an external NAS, read with SMB or uPNP, and face few issues:
- MKV files are not seen in the uPNP explorer of VLC. the directory structure is there and I can navigate in it, but it says "directory empty" where the MKV file is stored. Works fine from VLC on the MacBook. Parsing the uPNP with another uPNP browser on the Freebox and opening the link with VLC works fine, so VLC reads the MKV through uPNP with no issue.
- Audio is not working the right way : unable to perform AC3 or DTS passthrough. According to the log, AC3 or DTS format is recognized, then translated to Stereo and send to HDMI. Too bad for my 7.1 Receiver ))). I did not find an option to force direct passthrough, conversion to Stereo look like a default. Any way ?
- selection of chapter, or fast forward is not working well. Sometimes it just takes time before responding, sometimes just freeze for ages, never seen it back playing.
First 2 look like missing features, 3rd one look like a bug .
All this is solved if I use Kodi and its build in player (AC3 or DTS on the receiver, discover the whole library, can navigate in the movie effortless) , but with Kodi some of my MKV files only shows half of the image stretched to the full screen. VLC read them fine, but in Stereo
