File to be played are DVB-T MPEG-2 and AC3 in MPG container, 6Mbit/s bitrate, stream contains little or no corruption
Network: 802.11g wireless network, 15Mbit/s average throughput, throughput very rarely drops 10Mbit/s
File is hosted on Windows 7 32-bit build 7100 network share
When I try to play the afore mentioned files with VLC (with the default cache value of 300ms) they will play for a few seconds before stuttering to a halt (buffer/cache empty). VLC is requesting data at only 4Mbit/s.
If I increase VLC's file cache value by a factor of 10 to 3000ms, the issue goes away. VLC is requesting data at stream bitrate, ie. 6MBit/s.
The media files play perfectly in Windows Media Player.
