VB.Net Application

I am working on a small media player, and I would like to use VLC as the rendering/display engine for video and audio.
My question is this: What do I need to do to have a control which will display a video? Once I get that done, I can easily go ahead and begin coding this. I have googled around for hours, and see hundreds of in-depth questions regarding this, but nothing that starts off with the basics to beginning to use VLC in my application.
I read somewhere (I do not remember where) that I can use a picturebox as the control which will display the video...assuming that is accurate, how would I go about having that picturebox be handled by the vlc plugins? Which refrences would I need to add to my project to begin this? Any sample VB.Net code around that I could look at which could help me out?
EDIT:
So I began doing some more googling around (I love weekends, a lot of free time, heh), and figured out how to utilize the VLC Interop library. So, I am happy with that. I am just running into another problem with it that I am trying to bypass with creating a custom control.
