Network Api

Hello every one

I am new to VLC and now I am using vlc in my senior project as the client for darwin streaming server. I plan to modified vlc to send some network parameters such as delay,jitter, transfer rate, interframe delay, etc. to database sever but I don't know where to start. I have try to read the API list but finally it overwhelm me and I finally can't find what I need. So If any one familiar with those API or part of code please let me know.
