Is Ver 2.2.1 Incompatible with XP?

I have inherited a project that uses LibVLC version 2.04 to display streaming video.
It is an MFC project that was compiled with Visual Studio 6.0 and run only under XP.
I have converted this project to compile under Visual Studio 2010 and run under Windows 7.
I also upgraded the LibVLC to version 2.2.1.
No changes were made to the code.
The converted project displays the streaming video just fine under Windows 7, but shows only a black screen under XP.
I can swap the old executable (based on LibVLC 2.04) onto my XP machine and it shows the video just fine.
I cannot see that and LibVLC functions are returning errors, I just get a black screen.

No. All VLC 2.* versions are compatible with XP.

Any Ideas as to what might have changed that could cause it to not play?

And also...
I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot this
