VMLC problem

Hi,
I saw there was some recent activity in the vlmc git repo. I haven't tried vlmc for about a year, so I though I'd give it a go. But I'm having a problem. When I try to import a video of any type I get an error that says "Failed to load <file name>". I've tried building against vlc-2.1.4 and the latest 2.20 snapshot. Also tried building vlc against ffmpeg-2.1.3 and ffmpeg-1.2.6. All have the same problem. I'm compiling on 64bit linux. Nothing on the terminal window when this happens, and I compiled with the CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug. A year ago this wasn't a problem, but it crashed a bit too much. Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Kirk
