Two questions: make directories automatically traversed when added to playlist

I noticed in recent vlc 3.0.0 (from source) when I drag a directory and drop in the playlist. then double click on it. only directories get added. and not the files. i have to click on each folder to see content. which makes the search useless.

I tried to fix this. but I can't find the right function for it. which file is responsible for handling directories when double clicked/played? so I can add a code to it to traverse. I appreciate it if anyone can guide me in the right direction.


second question is about chromecast. I'm on wifi, and my vlc never sees my chromecast. when I click scan. nothing shows up. how to debug this and what should I try? are ports different on chromecast? I have the second generation chromecast. and it is connected on 5.0ghz wifi same as my pc.
