Improving RTMP client latency

Postby Gregspam » 17 Aug 2014 22:30

I'm consuming an RTMP stream locally on my LAN and I notice that all VLC players (OS X, iOS, my own player based on VLCKit) have an approx 3 second delay. How can I reduce this? I've tried all the settings I can think of in VLC preferences to no effect and I know it is a client issue because strobe media player plays the same stream with minimal delay.

I'm ultimately looking to build this into an iOS app so I'm happy in principle building from a tweaked source with caching parameters tweaked for lowest latency.

Thanks for any pointers.

Greg
