I've come to the conclusion that it's much easier to find directions on how to create a nuclear weapon then it is to find a guide on vlc streaming. Can someone please tell me how the hell do I stream media from my computer? I've found guides but they're all outdated. This is getting really frustrating, I can't find any software that will stream video from my computer to the net.

I use this to stream a dvb-t signal over the net
vlc -vvv --ttl 12 --ts-es-id-pid --programs=3301 dvb-t://frequency=490000000 :sout=#transcode{vcodec=WMV2,vb=384,scale=0.5,width=320,
height=240,acodec=wma2,ab=32,channels=2,samplerate=22500}:std{access=mmsh,mux=asf
h,dst=192.168.2.4:1234/stream.asf}

you need to stream a file remove --programs and replace the dvb-t: with your source, set the your correct ip and port on dst and try, you can use the vlc gui wizard for help
bye

There are available commercial softwares online that require installation. They can be used to download the streaming videos to your computer. Some have the option to convert your FLV format files into Mpeg or AVI files.

Hey all, I am looking for a better understanding of how VLC might meet my needs.

I have a website from which I want to stream videos so the video is not downloaded to the user's computer. I have used YouTube, but there is a limit and my latest video was deemed to long and deleted. So, I am looking for alternatives. I have considered some of the pay and free sights, but am thinking it might be nice to host my own video server so as not to be affected by third party problems.

I currently use a hostgator shared service account to host several websites, none of which are that active. Can I install VLC as a streaming server on my shared account and then use a wordpress plugin to stream the videos? I ask because I am new to video streaming and I also find the doc a little lacking for communicating how VLC actually works, in my situation.

Thanks in advance for the help, and i wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
