Remote operation with DMX

I am currently using commercial video servers to deliver video. I am able to control these from a DMX lighting console. Has anyone done this or is there any plan to add this capability to VideoLAN?

Tim.

Arkaos and Green Hippo's Hippotizer are leading products in this area. A shell that communicates with the DMX protocol (probably via Artnet) would add the functionality and could add a commercial market for the product.

Hi all,

I know a way to control VLC by DMX (or MIDI). I'm using a show control software called V-Control. V-Control can control the VLC player using the RC interface via network. V-Control is also capable to map DMX (or MIDI) data to a Cue. Using this feature, you can map e.g.
DMX channel 1, value 10 to the Play command,
DMX channel 1, value 20 to the Pause command,
DMX channel 10, value 10 play the first item in the playlist
DMX channel 10, value 20 play the second item in the playlist
...

There is a Free V-Control version (Free does not mean open source in this case) that can do this job.

The Free V-Control Version is available here: http://www.vman.cc/epages/61623692.sf/e ... c_free_sft
A short description how to setup VLC to open the RC is here: http://www.vman.cc/epages/61623692.sf/e ... deo_Server

It is not the most elegant solution, but at least it is a solution.
