Changing port to access web UI

Hi everyone. I'm hoping I won't be the only home user who plans on using VLMa, meaning I won't be the only one with a router who can't forward all traffic using the 8080 port to just one computer.

So, if you are wondering exactly how to do this, simply open jetty.xml in the "conf" folder in your VLMa installation folder(vlma\conf\jetty.xml) using your favourite text editor(every windows pc comes with Notepad, but I'd recommend the free Notepad++). From here, simply search(ctrl+f, or most likely apple+f if you're using a mac) the term "8080". Then, change this number to the port number you'd like to use. Make sure this port number doesn't conflict with other programs(like your VNC server, perhaps). I like 8562, since it's short, and easy to remember("vlma" on your phone keypad...). If either the daemon or webui are running while you do this, they must be restarted.

Now, you'll need to go to your router's settings page and forward all traffic using this port to your computer. If you need help doing this, please see:

And find your router.
You should now be able to access your vlma web UI by going to http://(your ip adress):(your port)/vlmaw
Now, if you don't want to remember a long ip adress, or have a dynamic one(meaning your ISP changes it every so often), I'd suggest using a service like DynDNS, which your router may even support. This will allow you to get an address like "vlma.dyndns.org" that will stand in for your IP. Of course, I suggest you use something more personal. Now, if you've used my example dyndns account and port number, you should be able to access your web ui from anywhere in the world by going to http://vlma.dyndns.org:8562/vlmaw

Other ports for specific protocols and such can be changed through the "Configuration" tab on the web UI. Hopefully sometime in the future the ability to change the UI's port will be added here as well.
