I can grab a Satellite Signal (DSS) run it trough a VLC Server and Stream it to multiple users over my FLAT network (Wireless). No way!

Can I simultaneously stream different channels? To multiple users?

with each DVB card you have in your computer you can stream a transponder (a group of channels defined by a frequency and a polarisation). Look at kingofsat.net to see those transponders and the channels available.

You need a DVB-S PCI card INSIDE the "server" computer. A STB (Set Top Box) WILL NOT WORK!! For a DiSHNetWork (or any "Subscription" service) this is a "NO GO". These systems ALL use proprietary encryptions systems that are not available for FTA systems in the USA, maybe in Europe (probably not).

The broadcasters use these closed systems to increase security. Some have been cracked, but there's not way you could ever use any of that stuff in a system like this. FTA has a lot of interesting stuff, you just have to really look for it. Most FTA'ers are real die-hard "hobbyist" types.

Hope this helps you out....

I have a 100/1000 MBit-LAN with 40 users and want to provide 10 or more tv-channels.

In order to do that I take a powerful PC (3GHz sufficient?), plug in a DVB-card, connect it to my LNB and start streaming the 10 channels into my network simultaneously.

Can VLS do that?
