I am new to VideoLan, and recently installed Fedora Core 3.
I am struggling with the installation, and following the Videlan site instructions I get the following errors:

How can I resolve these conflicts?
Is there a repo to install VLC with yum or up2date for FC3 straightaway?

I really need your help.

Here is the steps to follow:

1- download vlc-binary.tar.gz from the Fedora download page
2- tar -xzf vlc-binary.gz
3- yum install sysfsutils
3- yum install fribidi
4- rpm -U --force --nodeps vlc/*

Then run vlc and enjoy

I'm having the same problem installing vlc on fedora core 3.
I followed the steps Guest-What posted, and I also get those warnings. When I try to run vlc, I get this error message:
"vlc: error while loading shared libraries: libsysfs.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

libsysfs is part of sysfsutils right?

I'm fairly new to linux, what next?

Thanks

working

Well, I realized that in following Guest-What's instructions, I mistyped step 3a and didn't realize it until after completing step 4. What was counter-intuitive was, I couldn't re-type step 3a, 3b, and 4. I decided to uninstall vlc, uninstall fribidi, and start from step 1, and now vlc appears to be working.
Thanks for the info!

i've just uninstalled everything like damasus but when i start... step 3

$ yum install sysfsutils
You have enabled checking of packages via GPG keys. This is a good thing.
However, you do not have any GPG public keys installed. You need to download
the keys for packages you wish to install and install them.
You can do that by running the command:
rpm --import public.gpg.key
For more information contact your distribution or package provider.

anyone able to help?

pre fill buffer error

I've followed these instructions and can get vlc installed on FC3. However, when I try to open a stream, I get the error, "main private error: cannot pre fill buffer"
The sender is VLC 0.8.1 on Windows. Both stations are on the same subnet. I've done a search, but can't find anything conlusive. Anyone have a suggestion?
I'm also getting a lot of GDK draw errors.

Hello guys...i got this from another post and it worked.

I've finished by having VLC installed :

yum localinstall vcl-0.8.1-1.i386.rpm

gave me the previous error. I did the following things manually to get it working :

rpm -i libcdio-0.71 ... .rpm
rpm -i faac-1.24 ... .rpm
rpm -i libdvbpsi-0.1 ... .rpm

yum install vcl-0.8.1-1.i386.rpm
