Streaming from TiVo (old Series 1)

I'de *love* to be able to watch my TiVo recordings via the network and VLS + Linux seem to match up nicely. The hardware is a bit weak though (150 Mhz ppc, 16 MB ram, hw mpeg coders; details at http://tivo.samba.org/index.cgi?req=all ) The main challenges are the weird storage format (TCL interfaces exist) and the low memory footprint.

The MIPS based Series 2 boxes have a "home media option" for $100 per TiVo and require the $12.95 per month service for each participating box...

Are there any TiVo hackers here?

Cheers!

Yeah, you could look at the Tivo as a source. But the abiltiy to get video out has always been a serious pain. Two hours for every hour of recording.

What I would like to see is an implementation that takes my old Tivo equipment and PLAYS a video from VLS. I think is it VERY possible. The video would be limited by the slow bus, but you could probably get the stream through OK. And if the stream was ready to be fed directly to the MPEG decoder (a native MPEG stream) then you wouldn't have to worry about the CPU necessary to decode.
