Stream more then one dvd

Postby jimmy8c04 » 19 Nov 2004 16:13

Hey Guys,

I would like to stream more then one dvd at the sametime.
The OS would be windows 2000 or xp.
Would anyone know what kind of cpu I need to handle something like 8 dvds.
I'm thinking I would have to get a motherboard with dual cpu.

I would like to set up something like vod for dvds that way the user could see any of the 8 dvds.

Thanks

First of all you'd need a computer with 8 DVD drives

Concerning CPU usage, as long as you do not wish to transcode those DVDs, CPU usage would be minimal.
To stream 27 satellite channels (MPEG2 like DVDs) (approx 90 Mbits / sec) we use an ATHLON 2500+ and cpu usage is of only 20% (this is with vls). Using vlc to do so might use a little bit CPU but not much.

So i'd say you don't need an exotic and expensive computer. (well, you'd still need a fast hard drive if you read those DVDs off your hard drive)
