ati all in wonder streaming

Hi all,

I am entirely a novice to this streaming thing so please forgive my ignorance.

With the hopes of unicasting streaming video from my satellite through my home network to my laptop; I set up a winxp box with a ATI 128rage All in wonder card with receiver and capture built in.

I fumbled through most the obvious settings and could not get it to do anything. I may as well have been a monkey on a typewriter.

Could anyone point me in the right direction? I am not asking for point by point instructions, just a very basic kick in the right place...

Thank you very much for any responses,

Baddogg

I have a AIT AIW Rage Pro card and video capture is not supported by ATI in windows XP. I wonder if this is the case for you, unless you are able to watch TV on the XP computer with it.

Good luck.

your acquisition card has to have direct show ccompatible direvers in order for VLC to support it.

I also have an ATI AIW 128 running under winXP.

I am able to capture tv programs with both ATI's tv player and I use VirtualDub.

I've read on ATI's site that, by default, the AIW cards use DirectShow capture drivers, but videoLAN does not see any available DirectShow drivers for playback.

I hate to sound like a sycophant, but I LOVE this application. I'm a fairly proficient programmer and am looking forward to tearing into this code.

I might be wrong but I think VirtualDub uses the VFW (video for window) api. If your card only has VFW drivers than it will explain why it works in VirtualDub but not VLC.

VLC should list all DirectShow compatible device if you click on "Refresh" in the open panel so if nothing is there...

I am also having issues with an ATI AIW Rage 128 Pro 32m, but I can view channels just fine. My problem is when I attempt to close vlc and I am unable to kill the process (access denied). With the vlc process still running the tuning feature of the card is still locked and neither vlc or ATI TV Tuner can access it.

I have already closed out of the ATI TV tuning software but it made no difference. Currently running on Win2k Pro SP4 (1.2ghz Tbird, 392mb ram) with Direct X 9c

Any help would be appreciated, ultimatley I am trying to stream from the analog ATI inputs and unicast across the network (udp unicast being the easy part, have that under control, just the ATI part that is my pain)

Correction, I have that problem with my Hauppauge WinTV 878/9 Card as well (with WDM drivers, no alternative drivers off hand)
