Streaming Server Technology

Postby JerryHobby » 16 May 2006 20:08

I just discovered this product today and am unsure about what is necessary for my application. While I am very technical, I am not familiar with the specific behaviors of multicasting, etc.

My scenario is that I will setup remote streaming sources at various locations. Each of these sources needs to stream to up to 50 clients. The sources will have computers and DSL or better connections.

My concern is that if the source stream is directly connected to the clients, then we will exceed the capabilities of the DSL connection.

I would imagine that I would have the source streams feed a server and that the clients would connect to that server.

If I want to have sources at 50 different physical locations and up to 50 clients per stream, how would I architect it using this product?

Thanks!
Jerry

Read the Streaming How-to under Documentation.

Thanks ...

I have reviewed the documentation already. The documentation is reference material, not tutorial. If I need to know command line parameters and configuration options, it's all there. What I need is a little more fundamental.

From what I can discern from the documentation, this product is not capable of streaming to multiple clients over the Internet except through multicasting. It then says that multicasting is not widely supported.

So my question still stands unanswered. If anyone can provide a high level overview on how this product can work in my scenario, that would be helpful.
