No multicast over internet with VLC? Anyone tried?

Discussion on the (deprecated) VideoLAN Server application as well as the miniSAPserver stream announcer. This is not about VLC!

VLC has no problem providing multicast. You must have an internet service provider (ISP) that supports it.

Many people cannot even receive multicast, their ISP blocks it entirely. Some people can receive multicast, but not send it. Relatively few people can both receive and send. These 3 possibilities are all based on what type of connection you have from your ISP.
