Streaming to a server and then out to clients?

Discussion on the (deprecated) VideoLAN Server application as well as the miniSAPserver stream announcer. This is not about VLC!

Streaming to a server and then out to clients?

Postby fletchowns » 27 Jun 2008 04:09

I want to stream a video feed from my laptop at home on a low bandwidth connection to my dedicated server in a data center with plenty of bandwidth, and then have clients connect to the dedicated server to view the stream. How do I go about doing this? RTP unicast? HTTP? I'm running FC7 and already have VLC installed, just not sure what to do from here. Ideally I'd like to deliver embed 2 streams on a webpage that people can view.

Is this really some impossibly difficult and complex task? 150 views and not a single reply? At this point I just want to connect to a Windows Media Stream (mms://) and stream it back out as a windows media stream.

Stream in MMS/ASF/WMV2/MP3 from your client and restream it on your server.
