Now Ive spent a couple of hours installing it on my debian server ( ar to install and upgrade tge gcc g++ "system" also )..

only to find... it doesnt work, and no one helps..

I have an issue of streaming a TS file over UDP. First I tried it using VLC (0.8.6), as recommended. I used the following parameter values:

- I stated a UDP address and a port
- MPEG TS was selected by default as the encapsulation method
- For transcoding options/video codec I selected h264 and 2048 kbps
- For transcoding options/audio codec I selected mp3 and 256 kbps
- All remaining settings are the same

The video quality was not satisfactory and I received some error messages such as "MPEG PES packet doesn't have a PTS" from an external application.

Secondly, I streamed the same input file using VLS with no options at all. The video quality was excellent.

I would rather use VLC instead of VLS for the following two reasons;
- The playlist functionality of VLC
- VLS is no more recommended by VideoLAN

Do I miss some configuration on VLC or is VLC does not fully replace VLS for streaming yet?

Hello,
VLC is able to do the same as VLS. I guess there could be a problem with the setting of transcoding. VLS streams the file "more simple way" (I guess) and with VLC you use "possibly problematic" transcoding feature.
Try to find a problem, try to use all possible transcoding options and if you were not successful, you could write a bugreport about broken transcoding options to developers.
Or you can use VLS

I was looking to use vls for a multicast stream but should I be using vlc for streaming a multicast signal?

I am using vlc on the encode side with an mpeg 2 card.
