problem with scripting VLC from terminal

I need explanations about ways of control VLC from terminal. I already know how to automatically load a video and play it from shell comands but i can only do it once, and then, no way to load another film
on the same vlc module.
I tried to create an other interface with the comand -I rc and control VLC via LUA rc but i can't see video on screen when i tell VLC to play my movie, (and the fullscreen comand returns me an error) !!!
My problem is that i need to have some control on what movie i display in real time with shell comands, i need to have the possibility to switch between movies and capture devices when i want too. The best would be i can do transitions with some kind of transparency fades...
Is it possible ?
