I made a folder under lua and named it extensions.

Windows 7 64 bit Pro version
C:\Users\Owner\Appdata\VideoLan\VLC\lua\extensions\Time.lua

When I run VLC player it is not any where to be found. Not in tools and not in view ?

In the download it came as a text file and I saved it as time.lua

Can any one help me? :!:

Put the "time.lua" file in "\lua\extensions\" subfolder of VLC installation/unpack folder (where "vlc.exe" is). It should be in "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" or wherever it is. The extension works in VLC-2.0.x

:?:
It is in both places, the one I previously mentioned and in-> Program filesx86/VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions

VLC Player is Version 2.1 It Time :?: does not show up when I access tools and (Plugins and extensions)

That pop up shows no lua extensions and the view shows no lua extensions.

Running in compatibility mode and with Administrator rights does not help.

Maybe 2.1 is different some how ?

Please advise !

Found one more instance of VLC under user appdata roaming and added extensions sub folder with time.lua
I also installed the newest version of VLC Version 2.1.1 and it still does not work. Nothing listed when I look in tools -> add-ons and extensions and nothing listed in view.

I'm not a programmer and don't know how to fix time.lua or even if it is a problem with it or with the newer versions of VLC Media player.
I understand that it worked with older versions of VLC Media player, are they still available?

Is it your first extension you are trying to install? Try also different ones.
Is the file extension really ".lua" with icon of unknown document and not ".lua.txt" with icon of text document?
Is it in the right folder and right place "\lua\extensions\"?
Then what about Windows 7 64bit Pro permissons and rights? I do not know, because I am Windows XP user.

The 64 bit version comes with a extension already installed and it is VlSub 0.9.10 which does show up both in View and in the tools PLUGINS AND EXTENSIONS drop down .
I also tried the 32 bit version and in both instances I supplied full permissions.
It could be that the time.lua down-loaded from the help link was no good.
It came with instructions to save the text file as time.lua and to install it into the extension's sub folder. which I did for each of the versions.

It was posted that time.lua worked in version 2.0 of VLC media player, perhaps the newer versions aren't compatible..

It is a faux pas. At least VLC win64 contains VLSub extension, but it does not work either because of removed net module in extensions. Some other extensions do not work in VLC-2.1 because of removed add_callback(). I can see Time in VLC menu View and Time's dialog box shows if I click on it while there is no media playing in VLC on my Windows XP. Perhaps some other Win7+VLC user could help you.
We should have a VLC built-in installer for addons, like to open a script package in VLC (zip file containig script file and some installation directions in an included file or just in a file name or file extension) and then script files would be handled automatically and put in the right folder by VLC.
