file specific loop script?

Postby clemex » 12 Jul 2011 18:57

Hi there,

I'm not sure if I'm right here but I want to do the following:

For a video art installation I want to use 2 video files. The first file should be played in a loop permanently until someone presses a button (e.g. "next file") which skips to the second file which is then played ONLY ONCE. After that it should return to the first file which is looped permanently again until someone presses ... and so on ...
The standard playlist in VLC only offers the options "repeat all" or "repeat one" but not a customizable loop pattern.
Is this possible with a script? Can anybody help?

Thousand thanks!

Sorry for the late answer but yes you can create a extenssion script that will just change the platylist configuration from "loop on the same item" to "no loops" once you press the button.

I think that's really easy to do. If you need help, just ask!

Hi,

sorry to my answer now ... Yes, could you help me a bit. I'm a complete dummy to programming. How can I do this? And can the script be programmed that the mode will change to "loop the same" again after playing the second file? Thank you!

You can have a look at the lua extensions that are provided along vlc. For example the imdb extenion can be usefull for you.
I think what you need is a small dialog bow that change the behavior of the playlist when launched and when the button provided by this dialog box is pressed.
