As it was already requested an I also had planned to do, here I present an updated version of the current default skin.

I have also made a version I originally planned to release first when 0.9.0 is released as final, but anyway...
The only difference is that the maximize function is implemented.

To go to the mini mode doubleclick inside the main window.
This now requires VLC any 0.9.0 nightly with maximize support
