VLC wont play 2 videos at once?

I upgraded to the newest version, decided i hated it and went back to 1.9. But now, whenever i try to play a 2nd video when i already have another one playing, instead of opening in a new VLC window like it always did, it replaces the original VLC window (i cant play more than 1 video at a time). Please advise.
