Playlist not a list and VLC not accepting

Hi,

I just upgraded to 2.0.1 and the playlist is displaying as icons instead of as a list. I've gone through the Tools>Preferences> and selected & deselected "Display Playlist Tree." I've checked elsewhere, right-clicked inside the playlist, etc. and I don't see how to get it to list as a list. Nothing has worked.

Please let me know how get VLC to display the playlist as a list instead of icons.

I also noticed that while getting a screen shot for this post (which, I now see the forum won't allow attachments) VLC would not allow me to add another playlist (xspf): I had to shut down and restart VLC before it would accept a new playlist (xspf). I played a list, deleted it, then tried to add another playlist. VLC just stayed blank. I tried 3 separate times and VLC wouldn't accept the new playlist forcing a restart. I never had that problem in the previous version. Should I report that as a bug?

Thanks!

I was having this same problem, which was beyond annoying, because the simple playlist with drag-drop was how I use this program the most.

The way to fix this problem isn't in the preferences, it's on the main screen itself. So you have the playlist displaying with icons, right? Look up in the upper right corner. See the search box? Look just to the left of it. The button should be a few lines in the middle with an arrow pointing down in the lower right corner. Left-clicking it (well, at least in Windows 7) will cycle through the 3 ways to view the playlist: icon, detailed, and list view.

Does this work for you?

Thanks very much, Arete!

That somehow fixed both issues. I can now drag-drop another playlist without having to reload VLC.

Following on from Arete's solution (which worked for me too BTW), in version 2.1.5 Rincewind under Windows 7, the button behaviour seems quite odd.

The button seems to have 2 behaviours - one is to cycle through the options, the other displays a list of the options. When I was stuck in the 'icon flow' view, I needed to get the list up to be able to select the detailed list view. Now I have that, the button allows me to cycle through the options.

I'm still not clear on how to get list to display - if it is position-dependent on the button, it is very specific. Or perhaps it is related to multiple-click timing. Either way, keep basking away on this button and you'll get there! :)
