I have read that vlc supports rtsp streams. But I've never managed. Did some one play rtsp streams with vlc ?

VLC can both play and stream RTSP.

there're some rtsp online radios that I've never got to play.

what audio codec are they using ?

I've got no idea, guess it's realmedia.
